New introductions after tasting

Germany's largest whisky distillery launches, in addition to the Signature Editions TWELVE and THIRTEEN, the new Core Range CLASSIC - Mild & Fruity and PEATED - Rich & Smoky as well as the new Grave Digger - Fields of Blood - Single Malt Whisky out

Rüdenau, December 2022
St. Kilian Distillers has added two new members to its popular series of limited Signature Editions, which were unveiled to the public at its major online whisky tasting on December 29, 2022. The mild Signature Edition TWELVE is a four-year-old single malt that was mostly matured in ex Moscatel de Setúbal dessert wine casks (225 liters) and married with whiskey from former Jamaican rum as well as fresh American oak casks (190 liters each). The result is a creamy-sweet fruit composition perfectly complemented by tropical aromas as well as mild-warming oak notes. A total of 12,550 bottles of the Signature Edition TWELVE with an alcohol content of 50.8 percent by volume were bottled. The special feature of the smoky Signature Edition THIRTEEN is its unusual composition. This is because it is a composition of five different types of wood. Thus, in addition to Palatinate and Hungarian oak, unique woods such as wild robinia (false acacia), chestnut and cherry were used. "Following on from the great success of our mild Signature Edition FIVE, which used five different fresh wood species, it was always an idea of ours to show this in the smoky range as well," says master blender Mario Rudolf. "The wild black locust in particular, with its meaty BBQ notes, along with the chestnut, delivers a nice bold, dark-colored bottling." Distillates from 2016, 2018 and 2019, made with 54 ppm Scottish peat-smoked malt, matured in the five virgin-fresh wooden casks to create a rich, colorful and characterful single malt. The result is a creamy, spicy melange of dark fruit jam with sweet vanilla cream that combines with warming wood notes and aromatic peat smoke. Of the Signature Edition THIRTEEN, 8,650 bottles were bottled with the iconic still shape and an alcohol content of 53.9 percent by volume. In addition to the two limited Signature Editions TWELVE and THIRTEEN, the heavy metal bottling Grave Digger - Fields of Blood also celebrated its premiere. A peated single malt whiskey with 54 ppm and 47 percent by volume, limited to 5,450 bottles.

St. Kilian Core Range

With the two new Classic and Peated bottlings, St. Kilian presents its eagerly awaited Core Range. "The idea here was to create a series alongside our Bud Spencer and Terence Hill whiskies that would be permanently available and come 100% from St. Kilian," explains Managing Director Philipp Trützler. The two standard bottlings are composed of mild and smoky single malts, respectively, 70% of which were allowed to mature in various bourbon casks and 30% in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. Together with Amarone casks, these are among the main cask types at St. Kilian Distillers and thus guarantee long-term availability. "The 70:30 ratio of bourbon to sherry casks has turned out to be a wonderful blend for us and also offers a combination that was previously missing from our portfolio," Mario Rudolf is pleased to say. The non-smoky standard bottling St. Kilian Classic - Mild & Fruity convinces with ripe apricots and peaches, rounded off by creamy vanilla, spicy oak and fine herbal notes. For the smoky version St. Kilian Peated - Rich & Smoky, heavily peated barley malt from the Scottish Highlands with a phenol content of 54 ppm was used. The result is a single malt that has a rich intensity of grilled apricots, creamy toffee and subtle oak spice, wrapped in warming peat smoke. Both three-year-old standard single malts are bottled with an alcohol content of 46 percent by volume in the specially created 0.7-liter pot still bottle.

Ready for shipment from 11 January 2023

As always with St. Kilian Distillers, the five single malt whiskies are neither colored nor chill-filtered. The retail price for end consumers is €49.90 for both the Signature Editions TWELVE and THIRTEEN and the two Core Range bottlings Classic and Peated. The new heavy metal bottling Grave Digger - Fields of Blood is available for €59.90. As usual, the new bottlings can be found in the St. Kilian Distillers online store, on site at the Visitor Distillery in Rüdenau, and at selected retailers.
