First 8-Year-Old Single Malt Whisky and more Cask Highlights at the St. Kilian GENESIS Online Whisky Tasting with Irish Whisky Legend David F. Hynes, Founder and Owner Andreas Thümmler, and Master Distiller Mario Rudolf

St. Kilian Distillers, arguably Germany's most experimental whisky distillery, invites you to an exquisite whisky event: the St. Kilian GENESIS Online Whisky Tasting. On Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 7:00 PM, tasting participants will delve into the fascinating history of the distillery and travel back to the founding days of this remarkable distillery. A total of five outstanding new releases will be tasted, providing an insight into the craftsmanship and passion that characterize every drop of St. Kilian Whisky.

A highlight of the enjoyable evening and a milestone in the history of the still young distillery is the first 8-year-old St. Kilian Single Malt Whisky, presented as part of the exclusive X-Series.
In addition, two mild, unpeated single cask bottlings of exceptional refinement will be introduced, paying tribute to the Irish guest of honor David F. Hynes: a Single Cask "Irish Style" and "David's Choice" – a Single Malt Whisky from a fresh chestnut cask. Two peated single cask bottlings, made from Scottish peated malt from the Highlands, further emphasize the diversity at St. Kilian and lead to the enjoyment of smoky whiskies.
The grand finale is the fine St. Kilian LIQUEUR with delicate notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and coconut, made with Single Malt Whisky.

St. Kilian Master Blender Mario Rudolf, owner and founder Andreas Thümmler, and the renowned Irish Master Distiller legend David F. Hynes will lead live from the Stillhouse through the world of St. Kilian Whisky. The experts will provide insights into the secrets and master craftsmanship behind the legendary bottlings from Rüdenau.
Andreas Thümmler is particularly pleased that his friend, advisor, and long-time companion David F. Hynes will be present in Rüdenau this evening. "It is a great honor for me to welcome our spiritual father David F. Hynes from Dublin once again as a guest of honor at the Online Tasting. We will certainly talk a lot about the old days and how it all began. The legend lives on!" says Thümmler, whose intensive conversations with his Irish friend provided the impetus for the founding of St. Kilian Distillers GmbH.

Until April 28, 2024, spirits lovers can secure their tasting spot and conveniently order the coveted tasting sets with the outstanding line-up online or purchase them directly at the visitor distillery's shop in Rüdenau.

The St. Kilian New Releases for the Online Whisky Tasting in Detail

The Early Days – Ketterer Wash X St. Kilian – Unpeated (limited to 1,000 bottles):

The oldest single malt whisky from Rüdenau to date was produced by distilling a wash from the Ketterer family brewery in Pforzheim, where St. Kilian Master Distiller & Blender Mario Rudolf previously worked as a brewer. This unpeated creation initially matured in ex-Bourbon casks and was then transferred to ex-Sauternes barrique casks and small ex-Bourbon casks from Garrison Brothers for further maturation. Complex aromas of honey, delicate vanilla, and butterscotch, as well as sweet fruit and fine spice notes, attest to a full-bodied result.

St. Kilian Single Cask – Irish Style – Unpeated (limited to 320 bottles):

For the single cask bottling "Irish Style", the mash, made from 100% Pilsner malt, was distilled with a full reflux condenser. This additional cooling coil inside the Lyne Arm of the Spirit Still allowed only the volatile aromas to enter the new make, resulting, after five years of maturation in a 190-liter ex-Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey Barrel, in a balanced composition of sweet fruit, creamy vanilla, and fine toffee notes.

The single cask bottling "David's Choice" was personally selected by St. Kilian's spiritual father, David F. Hynes. This unpeated spirit matured for five years in a fresh 225-liter cask made of noble chestnut wood. The result of this exceptional maturation is a lush single malt whisky that not only impresses with its full-bodied fruit sweetness, dry tannins, and warm woody notes, but also with a magnificent mahogany color.

St. Kilian Single Cask – Turf Tail Distillers Cut – Peated (limited to 315 bottles):

For the single malt "Turf Tail Distillers Cut", only the last 250 liters of the middle cut were collected during the second distillation in the Spirit Still before switching to the feints. This precise handling of the distillation gave the spirit a more intense smokiness, before it began its four-year maturation in an ex-Jack Daniel's Barrel. The result is a balanced single malt whisky with an aromatic composition of peat, fruit, vanilla, and warming oak spice.
