BUD SPENCER – DISTILLED DRY GIN as a celebrated star alongside the whisky highlights

Rüdenau, July 2024

The 2nd St. Kilian Whisky Festival, which took place on June 29, 2024, in Rüdenau near Miltenberg, was a great success. Whisky lovers and connoisseurs from near and far flocked in large numbers to the multi-award-winning St. Kilian Distillers to experience the fascinating world of German whisky.

From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the festival offered visitors a variety of activities. Highlights included free short tours of the distillery, exclusive tasting offers, Bunker City tours with a tasting directly from the casks, equally entertaining and informative master classes, and a whisky rally to explore the distillery and the maturing warehouse, containing over 10,000 whisky casks, on the former NATO site in the Odenwald, between Vielbrunn and Lützelbach. A total of seven free shuttle buses were in continuous operation to accommodate the great interest in the festival and allow all interested parties a glimpse into the usually inaccessible bunker area.

"We are overwhelmed by the consistently positive feedback and the large number of visitors at this year's festival," says Managing Director Philipp Trützler. "We have once again succeeded in bringing the magic of Whisky made in Germany and the special spirit of our distillery closer to a broad audience." The musical program also delighted festival visitors. The Clan Pipers from Frankfurt and solo artist Dom Mayer provided thrilling entertainment. Numerous culinary offerings from the region ensured guests were well catered for.

Two special festival bottlings and a major international success for the recently released BUD SPENCER – DISTILLED DRY GIN at the heart of the festival

Specifically for the festival, the distillery team around St. Kilian Master Distiller Mario Rudolf created two Single Malt Whisky festival editions, one smoky/peated and one mild. All whisky lovers who couldn't attend the festival have the opportunity to purchase both special editions in the St. Kilian online shop while supplies last. In addition to the extensive range of liqueurs and whiskies, the large selection of cocktails and long drinks with the new BUD SPENCER – DISTILLED DRY GIN were also in high demand among guests in the warm temperatures.

Since its introduction in May 2024, it has not only made the hearts of gin lovers beat faster, but this aromatic gin has also convinced top-class international expert judges. The gin creation, which once again pays tribute to the film hero Bud Spencer, was recently awarded a gold medal at this year's International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) – just a few days after its market launch. The new release held its own among a total of 215 competitors in the "Traditional Gins" category and achieved an outstanding fifth place in the overall ranking of this class with its elegant floral and herbal aromas and expressive, complex taste characteristics, securing one of only 16 gold medals.

Whisky Festival also planned for 2025 with a pre-opening event

Already on the eve of the festival, June 28, around 200 connoisseurs from all over Germany and neighboring countries got into the mood for the festival at the sold-out pre-opening, a Whisky & Music Open-Air. In addition to whisky experience stations with drink pairing, selected single malt whiskies and the new festival bottlings were tasted under the guidance of Master Distiller Mario Rudolf and Brand Ambassador Christoph Albietz, accompanied by the atmospheric music of Paddy Schmidt.

Following the great acclaim from many visitors, St. Kilian has already decided to hold a Whisky Festival with an evening event in 2025, to continue to inspire fans and convince open-minded connoisseurs of the "Whisky made in Germany" label.

The St. Kilian Distillers team thanks all visitors and is already looking forward to the next Whisky Festival on June 28, 2025, and to welcoming whisky fans back to Rüdenau on the Day of German Whisky with new highlights.
