St. Kilian celebrates German Whisky Day with insights into the distillery and St. Kilian Bunker City
Rüdenau, June 2024
Following the great success of last year's first Whisky Festival, St. Kilian Distillers is pleased to announce the second edition of this special event. On Saturday, June 29, 2024, the multi-award-winning distillery invites gourmets and whisky lovers from near and far to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of German whisky.
From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the 2nd St. Kilian Whisky Festival offers visitors a unique opportunity to discover the magic of whisky. On free short tours through the distillery, guests can experience the production process of the noble spirit up close. Furthermore, the distillery provides rare insights into St. Kilian Bunker City. Over 10,000 whisky barrels are stored on this former NATO site, normally not accessible to the public, between Vielbrunn and Lützelbach, waiting to be admired.
Free shuttle buses will operate for festival guests between the signposted parking lots and the distillery, as well as between the distillery and St. Kilian Bunker City.
Captivating performances by the Clan Pipers from Frankfurt and solo artist Dom Mayer will provide the musical backdrop for the festival. Numerous culinary offerings from the region will cater to guests' physical well-being, rounding off the experience. The authentic distillery atmosphere and exuberant festival mood invite visitors to linger in Germany's arguably most experimental whisky distillery.
The exclusive tasting program on festival day is as comprehensive as the St. Kilian product range. From the history of St. Kilian Single Malt Whisky Distillery to the use of special wood and barrel types, all aspects of whisky will be highlighted and made the subject of individual tastings.
During varied Bunker City tours, participants can also look forward to a tasting directly from the barrels. Entertaining Master Classes will also provide detailed insights into the chemistry of aromas in single malt whisky production, the basics of pipe smoking, or the diversity of cask pre-fillings with exciting drink pairings. A special Whisky Rally invites guests to independently explore the St. Kilian Visitor Distillery and Bunker City with specially selected whiskies. Lovers of sweet treats will also not miss out: a tasting of liqueurs showcases the creative range of St. Kilian products. The comprehensive spirits offering is rounded off by the serving of the new BUD SPENCER – DISTILLED DRY GIN.
On festival day, special bottlings and two festival editions await whisky fans. The four-year-old, mild and fruit-driven special bottling "Distillers Choice Unpeated" combines single malt whiskies that matured in a former rye barrel, an ex-rhum agricole cask, and a fresh, Char-4-level charred white oak cask, artfully blended together. For the three-year-old, smoky festival edition "Distillers Choice Peated," whiskies from Portuguese Madeira and Jamaican rum casks were combined with the contents of a fresh acacia cask. The result is a single malt whisky with aromatic peat smoke, sweet rum notes, gentle oak spice, and warming ash tones.
In addition, for German Whisky Day, which is celebrated every year on the last Saturday in June, there will be a gently smoky special bottling especially for festival visitors. This three-year-old single malt whisky is a fruity-sweet, subtly spicy composition from Bourbon, Rye, Brandy, Pinot Noir, and Amarone casks with delicate smoke aromas.
Exclusive Pre-Opening on Friday, June 28 already fully booked
Already on June 28 from 6:30 p.m., connoisseurs can get in the mood for the Whisky Festival at a Whisky & Music Open-Air in the distillery in Rüdenau. Together with St. Kilian Master Distiller & Blender Mario Rudolf, selected single malt whiskies and the new festival bottlings will be tasted. In addition, whisky experience stations with drink pairing and musical accompaniment by Paddy Schmidt, the man with the whisky voice, will ensure an entertaining whisky evening.
Also included in the price are a 0.5-liter bottle of the smoky "Pre-Opening Peated" bottling, which matured for four years in former 30-liter casks from the Swedish distillery Mackmyra and captivates with its fruity-sweet intensity of bright fruits, as well as a voucher for a meal from the food truck. All tickets for the pre-opening on June 28 are already sold out.
