Press release: Successful 1st Whisky Festival of St. Kilian Distillers inspires countless visitors

St. Kilian Whisky Festival

German Whisky Day event exceeds all expectations

Rüdenau, June 2023
On Saturday, June 24, 2023, the German distillery St. Kilian Distillers hosted its first Whisky Festival, attracting countless enthusiastic visitors from near and far. Whisky fans from all over Germany and beyond were able to go on a discovery tour through the production buildings at the site in Rüdenau as well as through various storage bunkers in the Bunker City amidst unspoiled nature of the Odenwald. The festival offered the guests a variety of experiences around the liquid gold and exceeded all expectations.

The 1st St. Kilian Whisky Festival represented a unique opportunity for lovers and connoisseurs of the noble spirit to be transported into the fascinating world of single malt whisky. Visitors had the opportunity to take free short tours of the whisky distillery and gain an insight into the production process. For those seeking a more intense whisky experience, exclusive tours and tastings were offered at the distillery as well as St. Kilian Bunker City. The former NATO site, which is not normally open to the public, is already home to over 10,000 different whiskey barrels.

Other highlights of the festival were the numerous master classes, in which participants could deepen their knowledge and passion for whisky. From the history of the St. Kilian single malt whisky distillery to the use of special types of wood and casks, all facets of the drink were illuminated. The Warehouse Tastings offered visitors the unique opportunity to taste rare and exclusive whisky varieties directly from the barrel. In addition, whisky seminars provided a scientific insight into the fascinating world of aromas in the production of single malt whisky. In addition, a tasting of liqueurs also drew attention to the creative range of sweet St. Kilian products.

The tastings and tours were accompanied by musical performances by the Clan Pipers from Frankfurt, Scottish folk musician Robin Laing, and individual artist Dom Mayer. With their authentic sounds, the musical interludes created a very special festival atmosphere. The enjoyment experience was rounded off by numerous culinary offerings. The young guests also got their money's worth with the colorful children's program.

"We are overwhelmed by the positive response to our first Whisky Festival," said a visibly satisfied Philipp Trützler, managing director of St. Kilian Distillers. "It makes us very proud that we could inspire so many people for our whisky. My thanks go to all visitors, as well as exhibitors, musicians, numerous helpers and our fantastic St. Kilian team. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone again at the next St. Kilian Whisky Festival."

In addition to tasting numerous single cask bottlings, whiskey fans were able to choose a mild single malt festival edition aged in oloroso sherry casks and a smoky single malt festival edition aged in small bourbon casks on the day of the festival. In addition, a special mild bottling matured in fresh Hungarian oak casks was presented especially for the Day of German Whisky, which is always celebrated on the last Saturday in June. Two limited "Distillery Only" single malt bottlings, available only at the distillery, rounded off the extensive range of whiskies on offer to festival visitors.
