Where sound and enjoyment merge – the St. Kilian x Framus - IRONFINGER Edition

Wo Klang und Genuss verschmelzen – die St. Kilian x Framus - IRONFINGER Edition

Whisky meets music. Cask art meets guitar building.
With the IRONFINGER Edition, St. Kilian, Axel Ritt ("Ironfinger") and Framus present a unique cooperation in which whisky and guitar woods are combined in an extraordinary way.

The Story Behind the Cooperation

St. Kilian stands for single malt whisky - Made in Germany, matured in the best casks. Framus stands for instrument making that inspires musicians all over the world. Two worlds that seem different at first glance, yet have a lot in common: passion, craftsmanship, precision, and creativity.

Together with guitarist Axel Ritt ("Ironfinger") and guitar manufacturer Framus, the idea arose to intertwine these two universes – and the result is as spectacular as it is unique: whisky casks with stored guitar parts that not only give the whisky a special note but also shape the woods for future instruments.

Cask Art from a Master Hand

For the St. Kilian x Framus - IRONFINGER Edition, special casks were custom-made by the renowned cooperage Wilhelm Eder in Bad Dürkheim. In these individually crafted casks, Framus guitar parts were carefully stored – a unique piece of cask art that combines tradition and innovation.

Whisky Meets Tone Wood

Upon arrival at the St. Kilian distillery in Rüdenau, the special casks were filled with fine whisky, laying the foundation for an extraordinary bottling. In the St. Kilian x Framus - IRONFINGER Edition, it is not only the cask itself that determines the character of the spirit – the stored Framus guitar parts also shape the whisky in a special way. Through intensive contact with the woods, additional nuances emerge that go far beyond classic cask maturation and give the bottling unmistakable depth.

The first bottling of the series, named after guitarist Axel "Ironfinger" Ritt, is based on a heavily peated single malt whisky that initially matured for almost three years in ex-Bourbon casks. This was followed by a two-year finish in a more than ten-year-old Rhum Agricole barrique from the French Antilles, which also contained an original Framus guitar body. This extraordinary maturation ensures a complex aroma and makes the whisky a true one-of-a-kind.

How Whisky Changes Guitar Wood

In guitar building: wood lives - and sound matures.
Just as a whisky develops in the cask over years, an instrument also changes over time through vibrations and playing styles. Vintage instruments are so sought after because their sound is softer, more harmonious, and unique, as the wood has resonated for decades.

For the IRONFINGER Edition, this natural aging process was specifically supported: the guitar woods were stored in whisky casks, whereby the interaction between wood and whisky refines the molecular structure of the wood. The result: an instrument that, despite its young construction, already carries the character of an aged classic – full of depth, resonance, and expressiveness. This individually designed unique piece will be exclusively manufactured in the renowned Framus guitar workshop and will be available for purchase in due course.
