St. Kilian Distillers celebrates Saint Kilian's name day with a limited edition white wine cask matured single malt

In honour of Kilian, the Apostle of the Franks, who Christianized and profoundly influenced the Franconian region, especially around Würzburg, St. Kilian Distillers presents the second edition of the limited Kiliani bottling. Kiliani is the name day of Saint Kilian, celebrated on July 8th. "As a Franconian distillery named St. Kilian, we decided to release the Kiliani Edition annually on July 8th in honour of our namesake and patron saint," says Managing Director Philipp Trützler. St. Kilian Distillers thus draws a link to important figures from the time of Saint Kilian to create a whisky that pays annual tribute to the famous Apostle of the Franks and patron saint of the region. "The names of the Kiliani Edition reflect important people from the life of Saint Kilian during his time in Franconia. Last year, the first edition was Gailana, the wife of the then ruling Franconian Duke Gosbert, to whom this second edition is now dedicated," adds founder and owner Andreas Thümmler. Originally a devout pagan, Gosbert was converted to Christianity by Saint Kilian. The inspiration for this year's Kiliani Edition 2022 – GOSBERT – came from selected white wine casks.

Made from 100% purest barley malt with a mild recipe, the limited special bottling matured for almost four years in fresh American white oak casks that were previously filled with regional white wine of the Bacchus/Scheurebe grape varieties. "The grape variety fits perfectly into our Franconian homeland and is one of the flagship varieties of many winemakers, especially around the Würzburg wine region. This closes the circle with the Franconian Duke Gosbert, who ruled Würzburg during the time of Saint Kilian," comments Master Distiller Mario Rudolf. A hand-picked selection of these high-quality wine casks gives the Kiliani Edition GOSBERT a rich, natural amber colour and an aroma of almost lavish fruitiness. Non-chill-filtered and bottled at an optimal drinking strength of 46% vol. in the iconic 0.5 litre pot-still bottle, this single malt whisky exudes a fruity bouquet of apricots and peaches, followed by sweet wine aromas, which are carried through a delightful layer of vanilla cream and juicy apricots, and culminate in a long, dry-spicy finish with notes of oak and light grape skins.

AROMA
A fruity potpourri of ripe apricots and peaches is complemented by sweet vanilla cream, fine almond notes and subtle mint in the background, creating an intoxicating aromatic experience.

TASTE
The fruity start with a lot of sweetness from juicy apricots and peaches, underpinned by light wine aromas and rounded off with creamy vanilla, is perfectly complemented by a subtly warming oak spice with a fine tannin structure.

FINISH
Rich, long and pleasantly warming with wine aromas, spicy-dry oak, fine tannins and a hint of white grape skins.
