The German Whisky Day event exceeds all expectations

On Saturday, June 24, 2023, the German distillery St. Kilian Distillers hosted its first Whisky Festival, attracting countless enthusiastic visitors from near and far. Whisky fans from all over Germany and beyond had the opportunity to explore the production facilities at the Rüdenau site, as well as various storage bunkers in Bunker City amidst the untouched nature of the Odenwald forest. The festival offered guests a variety of experiences revolving around the liquid gold and exceeded all expectations.
The 1st St. Kilian Whisky Festival was a unique opportunity for lovers and connoisseurs of the noble spirit to be immersed in the fascinating world of single malt whisky. Visitors had the chance to take free short tours of the whisky distillery and gain insight into the production process. For those seeking a more intensive whisky experience, exclusive tours and tastings were offered at the distillery and St. Kilian Bunker City. Over 10,000 different whisky casks are already stored on the former NATO site, which is normally not accessible to the public.
Further highlights of the festival were the numerous master classes where participants could deepen their knowledge and passion for whisky. From the history of the St. Kilian Single Malt Whisky Distillery to the use of special wood and cask types, all facets of the drink were explored. The warehouse tastings offered visitors a unique opportunity to sample rare and exclusive whiskies directly from the cask. Additionally, whisky seminars provided a scientific insight into the fascinating world of aromas in the production of single malt whisky. Furthermore, a tasting of liqueurs also drew attention to the creative range of sweet St. Kilian products.
The tastings and tours were accompanied by musical performances from the Clan Pipers from Frankfurt, Scottish folk musician Robin Laing, and solo artist Dom Mayer. With their authentic sounds, the musical interludes created a very special festival atmosphere. The gourmet experience was rounded off by numerous culinary offerings. The colorful children's program also ensured that the younger guests had a great time.

In addition to tasting numerous single cask bottlings, whisky fans at the festival could choose between a mild Single Malt Festival Edition matured in Oloroso sherry casks and a smoky one aged in small Bourbon casks. Furthermore, a mild special bottling matured in fresh Hungarian oak casks was presented, specifically for German Whisky Day, which is always celebrated on the last Saturday in June. Two limited "Distillery Only" single malt bottlings, available only at the distillery, rounded off the extensive whisky offerings for festival visitors.
