Sustainable enjoyment - A tree for every barrel - Part 1

Andi Thümmler

St. Kilian is committed to the reforestation of regional forests

Regional forest areas - Important habitat

Our native forests serve as a foundation for future generations. An intact forest area not only provides a habitat for flora and fauna, but also fulfils many protective functions, such as climate protection by filtering noise and dust as well as reducing CO2 or soil protection by slowing down erosion.

In the region, we are strongly connected to the surrounding forest areas, Miltenberg lies at the junction of two large forest areas, the Odenwald and the Spessart.

But the forest also plays an important role in our whisky maturation. We store the majority of our casks in former NATO bunkers in the middle of the Odenwald. The storage bunkers are completely surrounded by forest and even overgrown. This creates a unique microclimate and enables our whisky to be stored and matured under ideal conditions.

Plantman for Future

As part of the "Plantman for future" initiative, we are committed not only to preserving but also to expanding future-proof forest areas in the region. For every barrel we plant a new tree.

At the beginning of April, owner and founder Andi Thümmler took up the spade and planted the fresh seedlings in cooperation with the local company Interforst and other entrepreneurs from the region.

In the selected community forest in Großheubach, St. Kilian took over the planting of 500 Douglas firs and 200 red oaks, thus laying the foundations for future generations. The reforestation - under the guidance of the experts from Interforst - makes a significant contribution to promoting diversity in native forests.
